ADVENT OF CHRISTMAS
ARCHBISHOP’S MESSAGE. “If we are to enjoy our Christmas, we must help somebtxly else to enjoy theirs,” says Archbishop Averill in a message in the December issue of the Church Gazette. “There are many who will not advertise their poverty or distress, and who will not join the ranks of the Importunate, and yet will have a very ‘thin’ Christmas unless they are sought out and helped.” If professing Christians were indifferent to the great truths revealed on Christmas Day, if they allowed the material to eclipse the spiritual, if they had no contribution to make by their witness to the world’s great need, they were only playing Into the hands of those who were seeking to eliminate God from His world and to destroy all spiritual values. "Are we going to help God on Christmas Day by our devotion, our worship, our witness, or are we going to Ignore and fall Him?” asks His Grace. “Are we going to help our fellow men on Christmas Day or are we going to indulge in an orgy of selfishness?"
