EXPORT OF GOLD
SPECIFIC PERMIT NECESSARY By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, December 6. From to-day no gold is to be taken from New Zealand, except under a specific permit from the Minister of Finance. Mr Coates said to-day that Section VI of the Banking Amendment Act, 1914, prohibited the export of gold without prior consent in writing of the Minister of Finance. For a considerable time, passengers and others had been permitted individually to export gold coin up to £5 without a permit. In view of the fact that all gold coin is now to be taken over by the Reserve Bank, it has been decided to withdraw this permission, and from to-day the export of gold coin from New Zealand is prohibited, except in any case where a specific permit from the Minister of Finance 1 s been obtained. The Customs Department has been directed to see that no gold coin is taken out by passengers and others In contravention of this arrangement, and any attempt to the contrary will, if discovered, mean forfeiture of the coin to his Majesty the King.
