CHRISTMAS FARE
NO SPECIAL ALLOCATION. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON. December 5. Mr W. E. Parry »Lab., Auckland Central», drawing attention in the House to-day to the Press message from Australia, asked whether the Government would make similar provision for the unemployed at Christmas time as was proposed by Mr B C. B Stevens, Premier of New South Wales. He said that Mr Stevens had stated that the Government would allocate £IO.OOO for Christmas expenditure on eggs, oranges, honey, cheese and vegetables for needy families. Mr Forbes said that the Unemployed Board in its first year had made a contribution of £IO,OOO at Christmas time, and in its second year had Contributed £15.000. Last year it had paid the full allowance for two weeks without calling upon relief workers to perform any work, and it proposed to make the same provision this year He pointed out that this involved an expenditure of £IOO.OOO this year, and he regretted that the fund would not permit of anv additional help.
