NEW REGIME IN GENEVA
PRESIDENT’S DRASTIC MEASURES Onlted Press Association—Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received December 5, 11.20 p.m) LONDON, December 5. M. Leon Nicole's first act after being sworn In at St. Pierre Cathedral as President of the Geneva State Council, which the Socialists captured last month, was to hurry to the Town Hall to make a clean sweep of the higher Officials, suspected of hostility to the Socialist cause. Others were dismissed or told they would be disjiensed with at the end of the year. M. Nicole recently completed nine months' sentence in connection with the riots in November last year. He refused the customary oath of office on the Bible used since Calvin s tune. The new President's attitude has aroused intense feeling against the Socialists and demonstrations are feared.
