Misses Claire Dennis and Frances Bult, gave proof of their extraordinary ability to-night. In the 100 yards tree style test. Miss Bult led the field from the start and won by nearly two vards in 64 l-ssec. She thus broke the New Zealand record of 64 4-ssec. held by Miss M. Farquhar, by three-fifths of a second. Miss Barbara Lewln. who was second, narrowly missed breaking the record. She boat Miss Sylvia Grange by two yards and Miss Farquhar. the pre-ent holder of the national title, was fourth. In a special scratch race over 220 vards against the mens champion of Auckland. J. Magee. Miss Dennis, woman breaststroke champion of the world, stopped by mistake at the end of the fifth lap, 166 2-3 yards, where she was level with her opponent She lost fully five yards and although Magee won. Miss Dennis registered 3 16 3-Ssec. or 10 4-sser faster than the New Zealand womens record.
