COMPETITION BOWLING TEMUKA BEATS FAIRLIE Playing at Temuka yesterday in a Centre fixture the Temuka Bowling Club's Thursday team beat Fatrlie by 92 points to 71. TENNIS.
At. the Temuka Presbyterian Tennis Club’s courts yesterday a tournament for non-match players was conducted. There was a fairly good entry. The winner was C. Smith, who beat Miss V. Davey In the final. In order to decide positions for opening a tennis ladder, the Sunshine Tennis Club held a singles tournament at the residence of Mr D. B. Muir yesterday. Results:— First Round.—W. Mclnnes beat Miss J. Cameron: Miss L. Muir beat Miss E. Shepherd: Miss E. Elston beat Miss V. Wood head: Miss M. Cameron beat Miss M. Shepherd; Mrs Elston beat Miss A. Mills; C. GUddon beat D. B. Muir. Second Round.—W. Mclnnes beat Miss Muir; O. Simpson beat Miss Elston; Mrs Elston beat Miss M. Cameron; M. Shepherd beat C. Ollddon. Semi-final.—O. Simpson beat W. Mclnnes and M. Shepherd beat Mrs Elston. Final.—M. Shepherd 8 beat O. Simpson 3. At the conclusion of the tourney cheers were given for the winner and for Mr and Mrs Muir for providing strawberries and cream.
GENERAL NEWS.
At • recent practice the Temuka Municipal Band decided to commence this summer's series of sacred cocncerts on Sunday evening In the Domain. So far, the Mayor (Mr A. W. Buzan) has received no reply to the reduction in allocation. The telegram was despatched a week ago. The Matriculation Examination will commence at the Temuka District High School to-day. There are 18 candidates and the supevrisor will be Miss G. Taylor. Although many cases were heard at the Native Land Court yesterday, none was of more than personal Interest, the business being for the most part applications for partition or succession. It is expected that the sitting will conclude to-day. ____
