LARGE DECREASE IN UNEMPLOYED CHANCELLOR ASKED FOR TAX RELIEF British Official Wireless (Received November 8, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, November 7. Asked in the House of Commons whether any progress was being made towards a reduction in taxation in the next Budget, the Chancellor of the Exchequer said the improved condition of the country was evident in many ways, and this enabled him to look with confidence for a favourable financial outcome of the present financial year, but he could make no statement as to the revenue or expenditure for the succeeding year.

A further decrease in unemployment took place in October, and the returns of the Ministry of Labour show that since January the unemployed figure has fallen by 500,245. The total registered unemployed in October was 2,298,753, representing a reduction during the month of 37,974, and a reduction compared with a year ago of 448,253.
