BOOKMAKERS FINED £250 EACH. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, November 7. Three detectives this afternoon executed search warrants under the Gaming Act at the residence of William Charles Burge, 59 Pirie Street, and at an office in the Bank of New South Wales chambers occupied by Arthur Law, and seized betting paraphernalia. Burge and Law appeared at the Magistrate’s Court later charged with carrying on the business of bookmakers. Both pleaded guilty and were fined £250 each. Detective-Sergeant Revell stated that both accused had been in business as bookmakers for a number of years, and were considered two of the most prominent in Wellington.
