METROPOLITAN T.C. PROSPECTS UNFAVOURABLE FOR TO-DAY. Special to The Herald ” CHRISTCHURCH, November 6. The outlook is as unpromising as possible for the opening of the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting tomorrow. Rain was falling heavily at a late hour to-night, and even if it clears before the morning the track must be in a sorry state. Present intentions, however, are to carry on if at all possible. As a result of the changed conditions, Satin King has come back into favour for the Trotting Cup, and opinion is now divided between Red Shadow and Satin King. CARTERTON R.C HANDICAPS. HALL MARK’S PERFORMANCE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, November 6. The “Sydney Morning Herald,” commenting on the Derby, says from third last to a runaway victory would seem an almost impossible achievement, but Hall Mark definitely proved his claims to be the outstanding three-year-old of the day by such a marvellous performance in the Victoria Derby. Hall Mark was going just as strongly passing the judge’s box as when he began his phenomenal run. His time, too, startled the crowd, equalling Phar Lap's record, which was certainly not expected, considering the force of the wind. Hall Mark covered himself with glory. Blixten was a sad disappointment. The latter was also a long way back in the early part of the race, and did not get by any means as clear a run as Hall Mark, but over the last two furlongs he was unable to respond to any material extent, and was actually outstayed by Miramond. Palphar did much better than expected, although he had no chance with the winner in the strait. Trivento did not look like winning at any stage, in fact, the field was simply outclassed by Hall Mark.
