ATTEMPTED TRAIN ROBBERY

DARING ESCAPADE FAILS. United Presß Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received Oetober 24, 6.5 p.m. SYDNEY, October 24. An unsuccessful attempt by two men to rob the mail train from Newcastle to Sydney, failed early this morning. The men were masked. One armed with a revolver and the other holding a piece of loaded hose, boarded the train at Broadmeadow station, the object being apparently to seize the cash box in the guard’s van and detrain at Adamstown, which is a conditional stopping place. They compelled the guard to lie on the floor, where he was bound. The cash box defied attempt at seizure owing to being chained to the van. When the train reached Adamstown, it slowed down, the men jumped off, and disappeared without the booty. The guard was uninjured.
