ST. BEDE'S OLD BOYS’ ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING. There was a large and representative attendance of old boys from Waimate to Kaikoura, and representatives of the various branches throughout New Zealand at the Memorial Mass and annual meeting of the St. Bede’s College Old Boys’ Association, held on Sunday at the College. The rector, the Rev. Father, A. L. Burger, S.M., officiated at the Mass, after which the old boys were the guests of the College at breakfast. Mr L. P. Barrett presided at the annual meeting. Mr R. Boland moved: “That any person who ys entitled to membership may be elected a life member, if the committee so decide, on payment of the sum of £5. A life member shall have the same'rights, privileges, duties, and liabilities as an ordinary member provided that he shall not be liable for the annual subscription.” The term “life member” w r as amended to “fully paid member” and then to be applicable only to a person who had previously been a member . f the Association for five years. The motion in this form was carried. Branches’ Activities. The branch representatives reported on the activities of the branches throughout the year. The Wellington branch, it was stated, had been somewhat adversely affected by the transfer of many of its members to other centres. Friendly relationships had been maintained with St. Patrick's College and the branch’s thanks were extended to all those who had helped it in any capacity. Mr R. C. M. Sunley, on behalf of the South Canterbury branch, reported that a successful year had been experienced. The membership of the branch was drawn from a large area and es this would have militated against the success of any social function that might have been held, the branch's activities were confined a little. Two old boys of the college had been selected to play for the South Canterbury Rugby football team Support was promised for the fete in November. The branch had 60 registered members On behalf of the West Coast branch it was stated that the first annual meeting and dinner had been very successful. However, the difficulty m arranging social functions, on account of the widespread membership was very great on the Coast. Interest was being displayed in the fete. Election of Officers.
