France is at the crossroads and may to-morrow be in a perilous position.” said M. Lamaurex. opening th'e financial debate in the Chamber of Deputies, which threatens the continuance of the Government. He urged the House to save France and balance the Budget, otherwise loans could not be raised, nor the reequipment scheme effectuated. M. Bonnet emphasised the importance of making France a sure refuge for capital. The promise of an adjournment to October 23 allayed feverish excitement in the Chamber, where every gallery was filled. Crowds were standing in a downpour of rain outside under a military police guard.
