OLD BOYS’ DAY

GATHERING AT THE HIGH SCHOOL MANY COMPETITIONS HELD Between 70 and 80 old boys of Timaru Boys’ High School gathered at their Alma Mater yesterday when they entered into competition with the present pupils in cricket, tennis, fives and rifle shooting. The gathering was the first of the kind to be held at the school, and it is hoped to make it an annual one. The old boys were favoured with beautiful spring weather and in the warm sunshine the grounds made a picturesque setting for the various competitions. The morning was devoted to cricket matches at School Park. Three matches were played and when stumps were drawn honours were even. Old Boys and School having won a game each and the third being drawn. In the C. grade Old Boys’ team was Mr C. E. Hassell, who was the tenth pupil to enrol at the school in 1880. He was cheered on leaving the wicket after scoring two runs. A cup for the best cricketer in the Old Boys’ side was won by D. Mclnnfes. At tennis the Old Boys were victorious, winning 13 of the 18 games played. A special trophy for competition among the old boys was won by A. J. Leslie and A. J. Rawstom.
