WAR ON SLUMS
EXTENSIVE CLEARANCE IN LONDON. COST OF THIRTY-FIVE MILLIONS. British Official Wireless (Received October 22, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, October 21. Preparations for the London County Counoil’s £39,000,000 slum clearance and housing scheme, are now complete. The timber contracts alone, it is anticipated, will amount to £1,500,000. About 195,000,000 ft of wood will be required for floors and other constructional work. Preference will be given to British and Empire sources of supplies; a particular opportunity being provided for Canadian timber.
