WORK FOR DIOCESE
TRIBUTES TO CANON GALWEY. Warm tributes to the work of Canon J. de B. Galwey, who will retire shortly after fourteen years as diocesan registrar, were paid by speakers at the Anglican Synod in Christchurch on Friday. Bishop West-Watson said Canon Galwey would be extremely difficult to replace and the diocese would always feel the benefit of his structural assistance. Reference was mode to Canon Galwey's wide knowledge, his ready sympathy and tact. Mr H. D. Andrews moved:—“That Synod hereby expresses its very great regret that the T. - r. Canon j. de B. Galwey is resigning his office of diocesan registrar and treasurer, and his other diocesan offices, and records its great appreciation of his fourteen years of most valuable, faithful “id efficient service in and f r the diocese in such offices, and wishes him God speed in his retirement and hopes that he may long be spared to continue, in a less exacting and onerous position, working for the Church he loves and has served so well.” Mr Andrews was suppoued in his eulogistic references by t’.e Very Rev. Dean J. A. Julius, the Ven. Archdeacon P. B. Haggitt, the Revs. R de Lambert and H. T. Park and Messrs K. M. Gresson and G. Stening, and the motion was carried with acclamation.
