The rapidly deepening impression made in the United States by Mr Frank Milner, rector of the Waitaki Boys’ High School, during his recent visit there, was described by his fellow Rotarian, Mr T. C. List, at the weekly luncheon of the Auckland Rotary Club. When Mr Milner first went there, Mr List said, he was announced as “Rotarian Frank Milner, of New Zealand.” He was then described as “Dr. Milner, the rector of New Zealand’s leading academy.” Next he was advanced to the position of “Sir Frank Milner, the silver-tongued orator of the Southern Seas.” “Then just before I left.” said Mr List, "he was elevated to the distinction of being ‘Lord Milner, the world’s greatest living orator.’ I do not know what position he reached before he left, but I would not be surprised if he was 'Frank Milner, uncrowned king of the southern is , -~\” A scheme of using the waters of the old Ngaruroro River to irrigate 10000 acres of the farm lands between the Tuki Tuki River and the Ngaruroro River at a capital cost of £IO.OOO. together with a subsidiary scheme of transforming the Old Ngaruroro Into a lake and aquatic sports area over five miles in length, was submitted to the monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay County Council by Messrs H. C. Davies and A. T. Clark, surveyors, of Hastings. The council did not discuss the matter, the chairman, Mr r B. Logan, stating that it was for the ratepayers concerned to petition the council.
