PROVINCIAL BANDS’ CONTEST JUDGE’S COMMENT The conductor of the Geraldine District Band (Mr E. Undrill) has received the judge’s comments on the Band’s performance at the Canterbury Provincial Band’s Association’s annual tournament, held at Leeston. In the C Grade Quickstep competition, the points were—Ellesmere 2445, Prebbleton 225, Geraldine 224 J, Timaru Junior 224. Points for music were— Timaru Junior 80, Ellesmere 77, and Geraldine 76. In commenting on the Geraldine Band's performance, the Judge (Mr A. Schnacki wrote: Geraldine Band, "Invercargill" (Lithgow): "For the opening the tuning not good, comets very sharp. You have a nice style, but your tuning is spoiling you. Expressionmark fairly well attended. Band has rather nice tone. This Band has a good drummer. Very weak on vour turnings when whistle blows. Really, your inner parts are not well defined, but for a C Grade Band is rather good. “Cornets, you force your upper notes. Euphonium is rather good. Your opening at the judge's tent is not well defined and tuning rather poor. Trombone faulty. With better intonation you would be much better. I feel you are all trying, but inner part of the Band is not precise enough.” Mr Undrill has not yet received the comment on tne drill, nor the judge's remarks on the test selection, in which the Geraldine Band was defeated by the Timaru Junior Band by 80 points to 78. BOROUGH WATER SUPPLY. Householders continue to complain of the tainted taste of the borough water supply, which is even noticeable after water has been boiled. A suggestion has been made that the flushing out of the pipes from the fire plugs might effect an improvement. For some days the water has been tainted with a taste of vegetable matter. PERSONAL. The Rev. Canon J. F. Coursey, vicar of St. Mary's Parish, who is attending the Christchurch Diocesan Synod, is the guest of Bishop West-Watson. Bishopscourt. “THE COHENS AND KELLYS IN TROUBLE." Charlie Murr. y and George Sidney, the inimitable comedy duo, will head the programme in "The Cohens and Kellys in Trouble" at the Municipal Theatre this evening. A diverting story of rum-runners and revenue officers, there are ample opportunities for comedy. Excellent supports include the "Detective Lloyd" serial. NOTES. The Victoria Lodge No. 18. 1.0.0 F., will hold a dance in the Oddfellows' Hall to-morrow night.
