It is a well-known fact that mushrooms have to be handled very carefully to prevent them from being damaged, but It is hard to believe that they have any strength. Incredible as It may seem, a oig mushre ~n forced Its wav through two Inches of asphalt in a footpath in Sophia Street, completely breaking a big piece away near the kerb. The asphalt round the mushroom was considerably cracked.
