WOMEN POLICE.
To the Editor of " The Tlmaru Herald ’’ Sir, —Well might one ask how long is the New Zealand Government and our Minister of Justice, in particular, going to take before appointing this valuable addition to our police forces? Women police have proved their great value in Great Britain. Why should they not be appointed here? They are specially able and qualified to deal with certain of the phases of a woman’s life. They are more qualified to deal with certain cases affecting women than policemen. Then just think of the many young women who come to various towns from the country districts, lonely and inexperienced, and often total strangers in various towns. Just think what it would mean, if we had policewomen in the various towns, and meeting the various ferry boats and passenger ships. And also think of the great need of policewomen at our seaports. How long is our Minister of Justice going to think before he acts?—l am, etc., ONLOOKER. October 17.
