COST IN HUMAN DEATHS. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph— Cooyrlght (Received October 15, 6.30 p.m.) CHICAGO, October 13. At the Annual Convocation ceremonies of the College of Surgeons tonight, Dr. Allan was among the four receiving honorary fellowships. The 622 ordinary fellowships conferred, included Dr. Thomas D. Stout, of Wellington. Other honorary fellowships were conferred on the surgeon-generals of the American army and navy. Illuminating Survey. Professor Beckurth Whltehousc. of the University of Birmingham, in a survey presented to the College, showed that the annual losses from Industry through accidents and disease. He outlined the "medlcsl oode," presented by the N R A. for consideration of such conditions. He estimated five billion dollars as the annual cost of death and injuries in the nations' industries. At least one billion could be saved annually through an effective health and safety programme.
