Anderson (48min) 3 It was the most exciting finish in the history of the race, Willoughby beat King by inches, with Anderson half a wheel away third. Fastest time unplaced was put up by F. Stuart (scratch) 6 hours 27 minutes 56 seconds. H. Opperman punctured a tyre and then put up second fastest time. Two hundred and thirty-two cyclists started in the event. Colac to Melbourne. The Colac to Melbourne race of 100 miles resulted: — A. C. Pearse (37min) 4h 8m 49s .. 1 G. Swan (42min) 4h 13m 41s .. .. 2 B. A. Rudd (44min) 4h 15m 15s .... 3 E. By Telegraph—Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 14. The North Island fifty miles road cycling championship was won by R. Yardley (New Plymouth) in a race to Pungarehu and back. There were 26 competitors. L. Heatley (Urenui) was first home but Yardley recorded fastest time 2 hours 2 minutes 53 1-5 seconds. “ROUND THE GORGES” CONTEST. By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, October 15. The 100 miles amateur road championship cycle race held on Saturday over the “Round the Gorges” course was won by E. Jones (35mins), R. W. Marks (35mins) being second, L. Fever (28mins) _third, and R. J. Kennedy (24 min) fourth. Fastest time was made by F. J. Grose, 4hrs 33min 26secs, riding from scratch. He finished in 10th plkce. J. L. Richards, also from scratch put up second fastest time. He finished eight minutes behind Grose.
