Mr J. M. Jenkins was a passenger by yesterday’s express for the north. Mr C. Carr. M.P.. returned to Wellington yesterday after spending the week-end in Timaru. The Hon. J. Bitchener. Minister of Public Works, returned to Wellington yesterday after spending the week-end at Waimate. The Rev. H. J. Raymer has been appointed Dean of Nelson, the appointment to take effect from October 1, when the office becomes vacant, and | to expire on January 31. 1934. An official wireless message from Rugby states that Mr Robt. Mitchell, I British Minister at Monte Video and j Ambassador Designate at Santiago. i has been appointed by the King to be | Knight Commander of Saint Michael i and Saint St. George. Mr -G. Clark. Chief Postmaster at Timaru, has received word of his transfer to head office at Wellington, to which he will be attached as relieving postmaster. Mr Clark will leave this morning for Dunedin to take up duties as Chief Postmaster. Squadron Leader M. C. McGregor, pilot-instructor to the Manaw r atu Aero Club, who was seriously injured I in a crash at Milson last December, recently came out of hospital. At the week-end he made a second solo flight, proving that he was still adept at the controls of an aeroplane. Second-Lieutenants A. Mclntosh and !I. A. Scott, of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry, have each been promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Mr D. S. Mackenzie has been appointed a second-lieutenant, on probation, to the Third Cadet Battalion, of the Canterbury Regiment. Mr C. H. Clarkson, one of the civil engineers employed in the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, arrived in Wellington by the lonic, en route to Sydney. Mr Clarkson recently finished four and a-half years’ work on the construction of a bridge in the Federated Malay States. Councillor G. Benstead was last night appointed by the Timaru Borough Council as its representative on the Chamber of Commerce, in place of Councillor W. G. Tweedy, who found it impossible to attend on account of the meeting of the Finance Committee clashing with that of the Council of the Chamber. Mr J. Rosevear, who has been seriously ill, has made steady progress and is now convalescing at Willowbridge. At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Rugby Union last night a letter was received from the Otago Union conveying sympathy to Mr Rosevear and expressing a hope that he would make a speedy recovery to good health. Reference was made at a meeting of the Borough Council last night by the Mayor (Mr T. W. Satterthwaite) to the death of Mr T. R. Mackay. The Mayor said that Mr Mackay had been associated with many organisations in the town, and would be remembered by many of the Councillors as the President of the Caroline Bay Association. in which position they came into close contact with him. A motion of condolence with the members of Mr Mackay’s family was carried in silence. The induction of Rev. E. A. Osmcrs jas vicar of the parochial district of Methven will take place in All Saints’ ! Church. Methven. on Thursday. September 28. at 7 30 a m. In the absence of the Bishop of Christchurch, the Venerable Archdeacon W. H Monai ghan. of Timai , will conduct the service and will be assisted by visiting clergy. There will be no reception to the vicar as Mr Osmera has been priest :n charge cf the combined districts of Methven-Mount Somers for the past ! two years
