JAPAN TAKES 21,577 TONS By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, September 25. The total export of scrap metal from New Zealand to Japan this year is 21,577 tons, valued at £25,041. The Asama Maru, now coaling at Wellington, is taking 5500 tons, including 2100 tons from here. The Nankwa Maru takes 5000 tons next month. This is stated that practically all the scrap purchased will be for reinforcing concrete. A private company in Japan is reported to be buying the metal and selling it for strengthening concrete structures, as required by the Japanese law.
