STATE PREMIER SUED FOR DEFAMATION. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received September 5, 8,5 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 5. John C. Eldridge, Labour candidate, at the last election in the Premier’s constituncy of Croydon, sued Mr B. S. Stevens, Premier of New South Wales, claiming £SOOO for defamation, arising out of that campaign, Eldridge alleging that his prospects were prejudiced by Mi- Steven’s public comments, linking him with the religious controversy, which occurred while the plaintiff was a member of the House of Representatives, some time before. The jury to-day gave a verdict in favour of defendant.
