WEST SCHOOL
MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the West School Committee there were present —Messrs T. C. Palliser (chairman), E. Laverty, J. Dennison, J. M. C. McLeod, L. R. Breen, W. Marshall, G. H. Ferguson and the secretary (Mr P Nicol). The headmaster reported the roll number on re-opening was 307 boys and 231 girls, There were 25 new entrants in the infant room which brought the total there to 126. The three rationed assistants—Mr Street and Misses Tizard and Stack—had completed their term. They had done goo:’ work and he was sorry to lose them. Mr Matthews and Misses Lobh and Cave had commenced as rationed assistants. Mr Southgate was to relieve Mr Calder, who was indisposed. On the motion of Mr J. Dennison and Mr L. R. Breen, it was agreed that the Board be urged to put the school in its right grade, 7A. as it had maintained its average for the last two years. Messrs G. H. Ferguson and W. Marshall reported that everything was n good order at the school. The secretary was instructed to confer with the sanitary inspector regarding an open drain near the school grounds. The committee expressed its sympathy with Mr Calder in his illness.
