ASHBURY CLUB.

The ninth annual report of the Ashbury Bowling Club, to be presented at the annual meeting this week, says that the membership of the Club for last season was 41, as compared with 36 the previous season. Two teams were entered in the Saturday competition, one in the championship and one In the pennants; also a Thursday team. Although not successful in winning either of the competitions, some very enjoyable games were played. The Club was represented at the Christmas and Easter tournaments, the players a good account of themselves. In the champion of champion games the Club's representatives were:— Rinks, N. Hamlyn (s), D. Menzies, W. Hayward. F. Spring; doubles, A. Clark (s), D. Menzies; singles, D. Menzies. The last-named brought honour to himself and the Club by winning this title. For the first time in its history, Ashbury were successful in winning the Bristol Cup. This was the achievement of the year, and the players who took part in these games must be complimented on their play. The Club competitions were handled in a very satisfactory manner, and some very exciting finishes were witnessed The winners of the various competitions were:— Senior Championship--D. Menzies. Junior Championship—R. P. Carter. Handicap Singles, Manning Cup—W. G. Hayward. Two-bow! Singles, Chilcott Cup—H. Kebby. Handicap Doubles—W. Farrow (s). T. Wilson (1). Rinks—F. Spring (s), H. Ede, A. E. Lewis, E. J. Ellis. The annual smoke concert and presentation of prizes was held in June. The Deputy-Mayor (Mr Gi Benstead) attended and presented the prizes. In conjunction with the Ladies’ Club, euchre evenings were held frequently during the off season, and proved Very successful. Thanks are extended to the greenkeeper, Mr R. Irvine, for his untiring efforts’to have the green in good order at all times during the season: to the Ladies’ Bowling Club for their enthusiasm and assistance during the year; also to all ladies w r ho assisted with the refreshments during the season, to donors of trophies, and the Press.
