NAVAL MIGHT OF NIPPON

REVIEWED BY JAPAN’S EMPEROR OUTSTANDING DISPLAY OF FIGHTING POWER United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received August 27, 6.30 p.m.) TOKYO, August 26. The Emperor reviewed at the manoeuvres the strongest fleet that has ever saluted the Japanese ruler. The tonnage totalled 847,766, compared with 703,295 in 1930. The aeroplanes numbered 180 compared with seventy-two, but the Fleet can carry more. A striking feature was the increased strength in first-class cruisers, longer in range, and stronger in striking power, replacing the predominantly light cruiser fleet of 1927. Attack on Pacifists, Reactionaries violently disrupted a meeting of the Pacifist Society last night and assaulted the speakers, smashed the windows, and distributed handbills denouncing naval restrictions and anti-war movements. The ringleaders were arrested.
