BOXING
TIMARU ASSOCIATION NEXT WEEK’S CONTEST. The contest arranged for next week between Ray Nicol, present champion of New Zealand, and Eddie Parker, former champion, is creating wide interest. The present champion has proved himself a fast and aggressive fighter, which has won him great popularity with followers of the sport. In this past contests Nicol has shown pronounced superiority over his opponents in infighting, but in next week’s contest will meet one of the best exponents of this phase of fighting New Zealand has produced. The champion will be faster than the former champion in footwork, but this advantage will be greatly offset by the faster and heavier hitting ability of the former champion. Parker retains his ruggedness and as he proved in his come-back performance at Dunedin, is a strong and game fighter. Opposed to Lowe, the former triple champion showed surprisingly good form. The champion will arrive from the south to-day, and will next week give exhibition performances at Temuka, Waimate and Timaru. Parker will visit Pleasant Point this evening and Waimate on Monday, finishing his training with an exhibition in Timaru on Tuesday evening. OFFICERS FOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS.
