GRAIN AND FRUIT

DUNEDIN MARKETS. By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, August 25. No interest is displayed in the wheat market. Millers are not buying as they have sufficient stocks in hand. Odd lines are still coming in from farmers who have delayed in threshing or who have been holding their grain waiting on wheat sales to overseas that have taken place during last few months there should be a better final pay out to growers than was first anticipated. This will be possible ow r ing to the loss on the surplus wheat exported being less than was looked for when prices were fixed. There is still a demand for seed wheat and deliveries are fairly good to districts where wheat is grown. Indications point to the fact that with an average harvest there will be a greater quantity of wheat here than last year. The fowl wheat market is quiet. Values are inclined to ease and for lines of any quantity the value is 3/3 sacks extra ex truck. Small lines ex store have been sold at 3/6 to 4/- sacks extra, according to the quantity required. There is an entire absence of demand from any quarter for oats. The nominal value of A Gartons to-day is 2/- to 2/1 f.o.b. s.i. Prices ruling in the country are 1/6 sacks extra on trucks for heavy A Gartons, 1/3 for ordinary A’s and 1/- for B grade. There is fair inquiry for seed oats but there is not nearly the same quantity wanted in view of the low prices that are now obtainable for this cereal. Demand for chaff is confined lo small lots exstore. An occasional buyer is found for a truck load, the value being £3/10/- sacks extra ex truck. For deliveries ex store the price rules from £3/15 - to £4/5/- a ton sacks included, according to the quality and quantity required. During the last few' weeks the potato market has been guieter than at any otli-r period of the season. The market can only be quoted as nominal, the prime being worth £4 TO/- a ton, sacks included ex store for freshly picked lines. There is a Arm undertone in all the seed markets, but the volume of business passing is very small. The retail demand has commenced, but up to the present deliveries to the country are not heavy. Supplies of apples havu slackened off a little and there Is a better tone existing. Poor quality are offering «.t

lor/ rates. There Is a good demand for dessert pears, but only small lots are on offer. A shipment of Island oranges came to hand during the week, but the condition was poor.
