AFTER HEADLEY

JAMACIAN TAUGHT BY LANCASHIRE LEAGUE

There is keen competition among Lancashire league clubs to secure the services of George Headley, the West Indies cricketer, who has the best batting average of any player in the country this season.

Representatives of the Haslingden, Church, and Rishton Clubs at the end of June went to Aigburt, Liverpool, where the West Indians were playing Lancashire, to try to secure Headley's signature for next season. It is understood that he is willing to play in Lancashire league cricket next season. His fellow-countryman, Constantine, has done very well with Nelson. Headley declined to see the deputations, preferring to leave his affairs in the hands of a personal representative. He is also awaiting a message from the West Indies, where efforts are to be made to maintain his association with cricket in Jamaica.

There the matter rests for the time being, and no statement is available from the player.
