Miss Bromley Cocks, Christchurch. Is on a visit to Geraldine. Miss J. R. Barr, Girls’ High School, is on a visit to Christchurch. Miss Rose Winter, Geraldine, is spending a holiday at the Franz Josef Glacier. Mrs A Kilian, who is staying at the Grand, will return to Christchurch tomorrow. Miss Ruth Haggitt, Mackenzie Country, is spending the holidays with Mrs P. B. Haggitt, Christchurch. Mr and Miss Thomas, who have been staying at “Te Kaianga” have returned to Otautau. Miss Islip, Woodlands Road, and Miss Hall, “Beltana,” are on a visit to Tekapo. Mrs Timaru Rhodes, Hadlow, will leave to-day to spend a few days at Moeraki. Mr and Mrs C. W. F. Hamilton, Irishman Creek, Fairlie, have been spending a few days in Christchurch. Mrs A. Muir, Christchurch, arrived yesterday to spend the week-end with Mrs F. Newton, Maltby Avenue. Miss Evelyn Adams has arrived from Dunedin to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. W. Adams, Wai-iti Road. Mrs Turner and Miss Edith Turner, Christchurch, who have been staying at “Te Kaianga,” have left for Waimate. Mrs N. W. Robbins and Miss Joan Robbins, of Christchurch, are staying at “Cadogan,” Sefton Street, for the term holidays. Miss Peggy Unwin has been chosen to represent the United Services in the forthcoming Queen Carnival. Her campaign colours are royal blue and old gold. Mr and Mrs C. G. Bryan King, Sealy Street, will leave to-day to stay with Mr A. Garland and Miss Garland, Waimate, for the jubilee celebrations of St. Augustine’s Church. Mrs Bryan King is the daughter of the late Rev. F. J. Sotham, who was vicar of St. Augustine's from 1892 to 1896. Charlotte Bronte’s dolls will be sold in London next month. The dolls, which have wax heads, have hair which is formed as a chignon, gathered up and folded into a roll on the back of the head and neck. The dolls were the playthings of the Bronte sisters, and were formerly the property of Mr and Mrs Brown, of Haworth, whose house the children used to visit.

The Kingsdown schoolroom was filled to capacity on the occasion of the benedicts, spinsters, and bachelors’ annual ball. The guests of the evening were the spinsters and bachelors of Fareora, Otipua, Salisbury, and Adair. The Grand March was led off by the chairman, Mr R. Campbell and Mrs Campbell, followed by the joint secretaries, Miss Renie Bee, and Mr Vincent Coughlan. Mr Wallace Black, of Salisbury, was Master of Ceremonies. Messrs Reddock and Mangan of Timaru gave an exhibition of tap dancing. The music was supplied by a Timaru orchestra.

The charity ball, which was such a feature of last year’s social season, is to be held this year in the Caroline Bay Hall and tea rooms. Dancing enthusiasts are assured of a good floor and excellent music. In order to cater for the comfort of patrons, the accommodation will be safeguarded by the definite curtailment of sales in keeping with the capacity of the two halls. The presentation of debutantes to His Lordship Bishop Brodie will be a feature of the evening. The proceeds will be divided equally between the Central Relief Society and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. A most enjoyable evening was spent at Bluecliffs Station on Tuesday evening to celebrate the birthday of Miss Joan Beattie. Mr J. Mclntyre supplied music, extras being played by Mr F. Collins. Mr M. Reilly was master of ceremonies. While the young people were dancing, the older people enjoyed themselves playing cards. Among those present were: Misses J. Beattie, H. Scott, M. Mac Gibbon, B.
