“TERRIBLE MUDDLE”
BANKRUPTCY OF SYDNEY SOLICITOR. DEFICIENCY OF FIFTY THOUSAND United Press Association —By Electric Tel egraph—Copyright (Received August 17, 7.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 17. Claude Roach, trustee in bankruptcy, presenting his report to a meeting of creditors in the estate of the late Arthur Davies, solicitor, who committed suicide recently, disclosed a deficiency approximately of £50,000. Davies’s affairs were in a terrible state. No books were kept; not even a trust cash book or ledger. The only record of the bankrupt’s transactions were cheque butts. Mr Roach described this bankruptcy as one of the worst of its kind—a perfect example of what the law here allows. It does not even require that a person handling trust funds, shall keep proper books.
