FAIRLIE

FARMERS’ UNION. A meeting of the Fairlie branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Fire Brigade, Fairlle, on Saturday. Mr H. Tritt occupied the chair. A vote of sympathy was passed with Mr MacDonald in his illness, and the hope expressed that he would soon be restored to health. The Acting-Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) wrote asknowledging receipt of a letter in reference to the remarks made by Mr Justice Ostler in a recent Judgment. Mr T. MacDonald was appointed to the Small Farms’ Scheme Advisory Committee in place of Mr J. Barron, who has now left the district. It was decided to strongly support the action of the Executive in asking that the organiser be retained to complete the South Canterbury district before being removed. Mr S. P. Bray moved that an annual social be held and this was seconded by Mr Trotter and carried. The following committee was appointed, with power to add:—Messrs J. Trotter, T. MacDonald, S. P. Bray, D. He thought that Stock Inspectors were handicapped in their work, through being under remote control. Tritt meet the Minister for Lands when he visited Fairlle on Augur t 18. GOLF. The following will represent Fairlie against Pleasant Point at Fairlie tomorrow:— Men—A. H. Gillingham, J. Trotter, H.
