RUGBY UNION MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the South Canterbury Rugby Union was held last night. Present—Messrs J. O'Leary (chairman), A. Clemens, W. Quirke, J. Roseveare, A. B. Herdman. R. Judge, H. E. Lawson, A. B. Rowlands, J. Lillico and A. Aitken. A letter was received from the New Zealand Union asking that nominations for the South Island team be forwarded by September s.—Referred to the selector (Mr J. Wilson). The following amounts, being 10 per cent, of gate takings, were received: Waihi Club, 15/-; Geraldine Club, 17/3; Pleasant Point, 2/8. The Geraldine Club was granted permission to play a friendly game against Pleasant Point at Geraldine on August 17. St. Andrews Club applied to have L. Munro placed on the insurance list.— Referred to the insurance committee. The Waihi Club was granted permission to send a team to participate in the Waimate Sub-Union’s seven-a-side tournament. The Pleasant Point Club wrote expressing regret at the late default cf its fourth grade team on Saturday. Owing to several players accepting work on the previous day, only nine players were available, but the captain of the team, owing to the forgetfulness of the messenger, did not receive intimation of the position until 2 pm. on Saturday. The captain had then immediately communicated with the Geraldine Club to the effect that default was necessary.—The explanation was accepted. It was reported that Temuka juniors had failed to keep their engagement with Star juniors at School Park on Saturday.—lt w’as decided to ask the Temuka Club for an explanation. Mr Rowlands was appointed manager of the South Canterbury team to play Ashburton at Timaru on Saturday. The primary schools’ representative fixture, Canterbury v. South Canterbury, was set down as a curtain-raiser to the senior representative match on Saturday. Arrangements for the representative matches against Southland to-morrow and Ashburton on Saturday w’ere completed. It was decided to hold dinners after each match. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY.
