BASKETBALL
TEMUKA SUB-ASSOCIATION The championship table of the Temuka and District Basketball SubAssociation, with only one more game in the senior and senior B competitions to be played, is:— Senior. '
Kerrytown and Arowhenua have yet to play a postponed match, and the re-played senior B match, over which the protest from Winchester arose, has not yet been settled. In the meantime the protest, together with all the evidence, has gone forward to the New Zealand Association for consideratlon. Temuka Young Women and Pleasant Point provided an interesting result from their meeting on Thursday, but the standard of play was rather poor, compared with that which followers were expecting to see. The St. Joseph’s girls easily defeated Clandeboye, and the result now is that they have to beat Temuka Young Women in order to earn the chance of playing off with them for the Hayhurst Cup. The hardest part Is being undertaken by St. Joseph’s, for if a draw takes place the Young Women will be the winners of the trophy. Geraldine Juniors could have beaten St. Joseph’s had they just a little more experience in gaining and keeping possession. Clandeboye juniors were much too nippy for High School Old Girls. They were quick to take advantage of every opportunity and were not aided too much by luck In scoring the large tally they collected before the end of the match. Temuka Young Women were ex- • pected to offer fairly solid opposition to High School, but the school girls won fairly comfortably. The following senior players have been selected to attend a representative basketball practice in the Temuka Drill Hall to-morrow evening: P. Dwan, S. Hide, Z. Dwan, S. Christie, E. Dick, E. Flett, K. Lyon, L. Radford, P. Palmer, M. White, N. Poultney, W. Downes, K. Sphlane and Z. Poultney. The juniors to practise to-morrow evening are:—U. Gliddon, M. Kyne, G. Oborn, M. Foley, H. Gould, E. Flett, J. McCully, I. Foster, D. Kelberg, H. Manning, H. Livesey, B. Woodhead, and E. Shepherd. The draw for this week’s games is: Senior—Temuka Young Women v.
