Masters arrived to-day from the London Conference. Mr Fortes said that the Conference “meant much in the way of international agreement.” PRIME MINISTER’S PLANS. VISIT TO WASHINGTON PROPOSED United Press Association—By Electee Telegraph—Copyright (Received August 13, 6.30 p,m.) NEW YORK, August 12. Mr Forbes and party will spend a few days here and then visit Washington, where they will be the guests of President Roosevelt. Mr Forbes expressed the opinion that the nations at the Conference at least had passed the discussion period, and were ready to get down to details. He doubted if a New Zealand delegation would attend the next session, owing to distance and travel. Mr Forbes declared that New Zealand’s primary interest was not In higher commodity prices. Trade Relations With Canada. On arrival to-day, Mr G. W. Forbes began preparations for a conference here with the Canadian Minister for Trade and Commerce, Mr Stevens, concerning a trade treaty between the two countries. Canada Is understood to be pressing for a further extension of the treaty expiring on November 24. Mr Forbes is unable to accept the Invitation of the Canadian Government to visit Ottawa. He will meet President Roosevelt at Washington on Tuesday.
