TO PAY PUBLIC DEBT. CHRISTCHURCH MAN’S PROPOSAL By Telegraph— Frees Association CHRISTCHURCH, June 23. Steps were taken this morning at a meeting of Canterbury members of Parliament and representatives of the Canterbury Public Accountants’ Association, to call a conference to discuss a proposal that the New Zealand public body debt and local body debt should be paid in gold, to be won in New Zealand by means of a national gold-mining expedition. The meeting discussed a proposal put forward recently by Mr W. M. Tyers, former president of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. The assistance of the Government in planning this scheme is advocated, the scheme to utilise unemployed labour.
