A party of Timaru residents had a lucky escape from serious injury at 6.45 this morning when a sedan car travelling south towards the first Maheno bridge past Oamaru. somersaulted twice after striking the side of the bridge. Although the lights of the car were full on, visibility was bad on account of dense fog and darkness, and it is said that the driver could not. distinguish the bridge. The car crashed through the railing and fell down a bank, turning over twice. The owner of the car, Mr J. Vuleta, of Timaru, was at the wheel, the other occupants, all of Timaru, being Miss C. Stevens, Mr J. Stevens, and Mr L. B. James. Mr Stevens, who suffered a fractured collarbone, was the only passenger to suffer to any extent, the others escaping with shock and minor abrasions.
