FRIENDLY CHILDREN.
To create a world of friendly children is the aim of the New York Committee on World Friendship Among Children, whose latest effort is a Friendship Folio meant for American children to send to children in China (states the “Manchester Guardian”). It contains six pictures for the wall—including one of George Washington and one of good-will, beautifully printed in English and Chinese. One is from the children of the United States to the children of China, saying that only through sympathy and understanding can true and lasting friendship be formed; one is from the chairman and secretary of the committee to teachers and pupils in the schools of China; and another is a simple account of American child life, written by girls and boys in an American public school. The folios are intended to be brought by American children, filled with pictures, photographs, and picture postcards for the entertainment of their unknown Chinese friends, and posted to the Department of Education in China, which has undertaken to distribute them among the 190,000 primary schools in the country. An addressed envelope for a “thank you” letter is to be enclosed. This is not the first effort of its kind made by this committee.
