A petition for an inquiry into the recent Mayoral election at Otaki has been filed on behalf of Mr Charles Frederick Atmore, who was defeated by Mr Timothy O’Rourke, in a recount by six votes.

The Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe have appointed Sir William D. Hunt and Sir Alexander P. Roberts, Wellington, trustees to administer the Governor-General’s Winter Relief Fund.

A telegram received in Christchurch from the Hon. J. G. Coates, states validating legislation will be introduced next session for the Lyttelton Harbour Board’s grant of £SOO to the relief funds, provided it is taken from revenue.

The grading figures of the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture for the ten months ended May 31, 1933, show an increase for butter of 22.33 per cent, at 123,660 tons (101,080 tons), and for cheese an increase of 14.80 per cent, at 97,838 tons (85,227 tons), compared with the corresponding period of last year. Reduced to terms of butter-fat equivalent, there is to date an increase of 20,218 per cent over last year.

Messrs Bell and Kilgour, who on account of the river being high, have not been working their claim at Cromwell lately, commenced operations again recently, and at present are on very rich ground.
