N.Z. LEGION
CIVIL SERVANTS DEBARRED FROM JOINING.
By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, June 8.
During a recent discussion between the executive of the New Zealand Public Service Association and the Public Service commissioner, tire question of the eligibility of civil servants for membership of the New Zealand Legion came under review, and it was made clear that the Government view is that its employees should not become members of the new organisation. The point was raised by the president of the Association (Mr A. S. Burgess), and according to an official report published in the “Public Servioe Journal,” the following discussion took place. Mr Burgess: The next point we would like to have your view on is the Commissioner's attitude, and if you known it is the Government’s attitude, as to a public servant joining this new organisation, the New Zealand Legion. The Commissioner: The view of the Government is directly against it.
Mr Burgess; That Is to say it would be against any public servant joining it? The Commissioner: They think it is improper. The Prime Minister told me only this morning. Mr Burgess: We want that authoritatively.
The Commissioner: That is quit* definite.
