FANTASTIC STORIES

ALLEGED MISREPRESENTATION OF AUSTRALIA United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received June 7, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, June 7. “The Sun” says that Australians in London are indignant at the fantastic cables from the Melbourne correspondent of “The Daily Herald” that steps being taken behind the scenes may result in the disbandment of the Commonwealth by general scession within a few months. The heads of three States, where the secession movement is strongest are incensed at the Commonwealth's refusal to disclose the Budget details, enabling it to spend the concealed surpluses on useless extravagance. The circulation of “The Daily Herald” approaches two million and many of its readers must be left with a complete misapprehension of Australia’s position. The authorities in the City consider the allegations are likely to damage Australia’s improving credit.
