ESCAPES FROM CUSTODY
ALLEGED BURGLAR SHOT’ IN FOOT. By TelegraDh—Press Association DUNEDIN, June 6. Limping badly, Raymond Theodore Padman (24), the second accused in the Wimpenny garage burglary, appeared on a breaking and entering charge to-day. He was remanded. Although the police are reticent, it i understood that when finally arrested on Wednesday night, after breaking away, Padman had a bullet wound in the foot, fired by a pursuing officer. He was certainly sent to hospital, and it is reported that a bullet was removed from the foot. YOUTHS COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, June 6. At the Balclutha Court, Charles George Wyber (17) was charged with escaping from custouy. Another youth, William John Jardine, was charger', with assisting Wyber to escape. Wyber was arrested on a charge of obscene language and later a constable saw Jardine interfering with the lockup door, and on investigating found (he cell door open, the prisoner having escaped. Both were afterwards arrested. Wyber said he was lying down when someone caught him by the foot, telling him to go for his life. Both accused were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
