RUSSIAN TRADE EMBARGO

LAST MINUTE RUSH OF PRODUCE

DAMAGING EFFECT ON BUTTER MARKET United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 7, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON. May 6. Notwithstanding the embargo on Russian imports, 225 tons of Siberian butter is being discharged at Hay’s wharf. Apparently this is permitted because it was shipped before the embargo. “The Daily Express” says: “This butter will be thrown on a market already glutted with Danish, Dutch, Swedish, and South American butter, and will be quoted on the London Provisions Exchange at 62/- per cwt. Empire butter sold yesterday at 70/- to 74/-. One ship also brought 72,000 head of poultry, principally the imports of the co-operative societies, whose secretary says the goods were all paid for before the embargo.
