Rain seriously interfered with the first round of the county cricket matches. Worcester made 210 runs (Walters 115), and Notts 126 for two wickets. The match was drawn. The wet wicket was unsuitable for Larwood, who did not bowl apart from two overs on the first day.

Cambridge, six wickets for 448, declared i Davies 89, Winlaw 115 not out) drew with Sussex, seven for 232 (Cook 73). M.C.C. in their flust innings made 110 and in their second 206 for nine wickets (Pearce 78 not out), while Surrey scored 384 (Gregory 111, Darling 96). The match was drawn. Oxford: First innings 277 (Townsend 72 not out), also drew with Yorkshire.
