LONG BEACH QUAKE

DELAYS SAILING OF MONTEREY. By TelegraDh—Association AUCKLAND, March 27. The American liner Monterey, which arrived from Los Angeles this morning, was*on the eve of sailing when the disastrous earthquake occurred at Long Beach, and in the vicinity of Los Angeles. She was lying at dock at Wilmington, in San Pedro harbour, the port of Los Angeles. The liner was shaken as if by an internal explosion, but no damage was done. Big cracks were opened in parts of the wharf. Owing to a delay of several hours to mails, and dislocation of traffic from Los Angeles, about 30 miles away from the ship, the Monterey did not get away until next morning.
