SALE OF MARGARINE

HEAVY RESTRICTIONS IN SYDNEY. Uni tea Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, March 26. Commenting on the New South Wales Government’s action in prohibiting oils and fats, flavourings and colouring materials in margarine, the commercial editor of “The Sydney Morning Herald” says: “Surely the Government does not desire to destroy the margarine industry. Yet this is precisely what will happen if the Ministerial regulations are allowed to go unchallenged.” Margarine is not sold as butter, nor do the manufacturers desire to deceive the public. If the Government’s action is legal, then no industry is safe. Similar interference might be applied t.o cotton goods, because they are Inimical to wool, or to oatmeal because it would lessen the consumption of products of wheat.
