WHEAT SURPLUS
INTERNATIONAL ACTION PROPOSED. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraob—Copyright (Received March 26, 6.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, March 24. The Washington correspondent of the "New York Times” states that President Roosevelt indicated to-day that he considers the world wheat surplus problem must be solved, coincident with the domestic programme. After conferences with the Agricultural Department officials, the State Department announced that it will ask wheat surplus producing countries, such as Australia, Canada and Argentina, if discussion of the international situation at the Economic Conference, will be agreeable. The Department will also try to sound out the Governments as to how far they are able to go towards controlling production. It is understood that wheat countries, particularly Canada, are concerned over the world market situation, as in the event of the enactment of the Administration’s Farm Relief Bill, they fear a subsidy would allow American farmers to undersell the world. The League of Nations has already requested information from the United States as to what plans it will present to the Conference.
