RETIREMENTS AND APPOINTMENTS. CHANGE IN EDUCATION CONTROL. By Teieeraph—Pre9« Association WELLINGTON. March 25. Executive positions in nine Government Departments are affected by recent retirements and pending changes in control. Several Departments are at present administered without a permanent head. The Director of Education (Mr T. B. Strong) is to retire at the end of April. Thp form of control by the Education Department has long been under review, and there is reason to believe that an important change is under consideration which may Involve an alteration in the functions at present exercised by senior officers under the Minister. Suggestions have been made for the appointment of two senior executive officers, who would work along similar lines to the heads of certain other Department!:, where the professional and business rides are administered separately os far as jiossible. The Railways Department is without a General Manager. An appoint - rr.< nt ec this position is expected to bo confined by the Governor-General within a fortnight. It 13 generally anticipated that Mr G. H. Macklay Assistant Genera! Manager, wlii be promoted. ,

The retirement of the Controller and Auditor-General. Colonel Campbell, is pending. Colonel Campbell recently suffered an illness, and it is understood that he has asked to be relieved of duties. Mr Brook, Valuer-General, has, 41 years’ service, and possibly he will retire shortly.
