TIMARU FIGURES. The return of vital statistics far Timaru for the present month sho" s an increase of seven births as compared with the corresponding month of last year. Deaths show an increase of four, and marriages two as compared with the figures for December of last year. So far as the figures for the year are concerned, births show a decrease of 40 compared with the total for last year. December was the highest month, and January the lowest. The highest month last year was October, when 53 births were recorded. Deaths for the year showed an increase of 26. the heaviest months being July and August, in both of which 25 deaths occurred. Marriages declined by 29, the biggest drop being April, when only fi 'C marriage- licenses v.ere issued, s compared with 22 in the corresponding month of last year.
